TIME AND TYPE WAIT FOR NO MAN
TIME & TYPE WAIT FOR NO
Built in 1909 as a tribute to Perak’s first British
Resident, JWW Birch, the Birch Memorial is fitted with a clock tower comprising
a mother bell and four smaller ones. The clock had stopped ticking for a while
– until a ‘Clock Doctor’ emerged in the form of mechatronic engineer Niccolas
So what went wrong with the Gillett & Johnson Croydon clock? Join Niccolas
on this special trail as he helps you understand the history and mechanism of
the famous timekeeper.
The nostalgic vibe lingers on as you then proceed to Percetakan Wai Oi Shiar, one of the country’s oldest letterpress printing shops that used to produce ephemera using types in multiple languages. What other treasures hide within its antiquated shop? Only time (and this guided trail) will tell.
